Overview

Circular fundraising badge or button sold in support of homes for repatriated soldiers during World War One. It is made from printed paper between a tin base and celluloid cover.
It features an Australian soldier and sailor in uniform smiling from a large porthole under the legend 'Coming Home'. The words 'S.A. SOLDIERS' HOME LEAGUE INC / MYRTLE BANK 1919' appear in blue lettering around the circumference of the mostly cream coloured button.
The reverse has a metal back with a void into which a metal pin is secured for attachment.
The makers details 'A.W. PATRICK MAKER 3 UNLEY RD ADELAIDE' are printed on the rim.

Historical information

The South Australian Soldiers' Home League Inc. was a prominent South Australian volunteer and fundraising organisation formed during World War One to establish and support care facilities for wounded and repatriated Australian servicemen returning from overseas.
Following 18 months of intensive community fundraising, the Soldiers' Home officially opened on 24 March 1917 at the 'Myrtle Bank' homestead estate in Adelaide.
According to the Australian War Memorial, the original Myrtle Bank site continues its century-long service tradition under RSL Care SA management. It operates as the modern War Veterans Home Myrtle Bank, continuing to offer high-quality residential aged care, accommodation, and support services tailored specifically for Australian veterans and their families.
