'Lord Mayors Fund Annual Hospitals Appeal' celluloid fundraising pin
c. 1940 - 1950'Lord Mayors Fund Annual Hospitals Appeal' circular celluloid fundraising pin. It features a central portrait illustration of a smiling nurse wearing a traditional cap and uniform including the red cape or tippet.
The text 'Lord Mayors Fund Annual Hospitals Appeal' is printed in black upper case letters around the circumference of the badge.
It has a metal pin threaded through a small hole in the nurse's cap for attachment. The reverse of the pin is cream paper. There are no maker's marks. However, the graphic is almost identical to another which was made by A.W. Patrick of Fitzroy.
The Lord Mayors of each city oversaw a large number of patriotic funds and charity appeals.
This celluloid pin served as a charitable token to raise funds for local metropolitan hospitals and health services.
It would have been sold during a community 'badge day' or public fundraising drive, with the pin indicating that the person had made a donation.
