Gold tone patriotic brooch with slouch hat and boomerang
Gold tone patriotic brooch featuring a depiction of an Australian Imperial Force slouch hat with the brim turned up on one side (as traditionally worn).
The hat is facing down and attached to a boomerang with the word 'AUSTRALIA' on the right hand side. There is a pin clasp on the reverse.
There are no maker's marks.
It is not known whether this was purchased as a patriotic souvenir featuring recognised Australian motifs or whether it was a wartime sweetheart brooch.
Photo lockets, pendants and sweetheart brooches were very popular during wartime and there are a large number of them in the collection.
The slouch hat featured on this brooch is very similar in style to another sweetheart brooch and set of earrings held in the collection.
