Overview

Circular fundraising badge or button sold during World War One to support the Soldiers' Home League and Public Service of South Australia.
It is made from printed paper between a tin base and celluloid cover.
It depicts the heraldic badge of the Prince of Wales (the Prince of Wales's feathers) - three white ostrich plumes held by a gold coronet - all on a blue grey background. The phrase 'WE SERVE' is written in black text below the feathers. There is a gold border around the edge of the button and the words 'S.A. SOLDIERS' HOME LEAGUE INC./PUBLIC SERVICE OF S.A.' are printed in black lettering around the circumference.
The reverse has a metal back with a void into which a metal pin is secured for attachment. There is no maker's mark.

Historical information

The South Australian Soldiers' Home League Inc. was a prominent South Australian volunteer and fundraising organisation formed during World War One to establish and support care facilities for wounded and repatriated Australian servicemen returning from overseas.
This particular badge/button was issued by the S.A. Soldiers' Home League Inc. in cooperation with the Public Service of South Australia.
