Soldiers' Home League fundraising badge/button - Hope
c. 1917Circular fundraising badge or button sold during World War One to support the Soldiers' Home League of South Australia.
It is made from printed paper between a tin base and celluloid cover.
It features a central colour illustration of the Earth, with Europe highlighted in red, a silver ring around the earth, a white dove at the top above Europe, and the word 'HOPE' at the bottom in white lettering, all on a yellow background.
Around the broad red outer border are the words in white text, 'SOLDIERS' HOME LEAGUE/ HOPE FOR A LASTING PEACE'.
The reverse has a metal back with a void into which a metal pin is secured for attachment. There is no maker's mark.
The badge is showing signs of age including dents.
The South Australian Soldiers' Home League Inc. was a prominent South Australian volunteer and fundraising organisation formed during World War One to establish and support care facilities for wounded and repatriated Australian servicemen returning from overseas.
