Overview

Antique book entitled 'With the Airmen' written by Claude Grahame-White in collaboration with Harry Harper. It has colourful cover and spine illustrations on a red cloth background. The text on the cover is gold. The cover illustration shows a pilot in flying gear getting into a plane. He is speaking with a couple of men who may be ground crew. The spine illustration is of a pilot sitting at the controls of a plane. He is wearing a scarf, flying helmet and leather jacket, and his flying goggles are perched on top of his head.
There are six colour plate illustrations inside by the artist, Cyrus Cuneo. There also numerous black and white illustrations and diagrams by Max Millar, as well as some greyscale photographs.
The publisher's name appears at the bottom of the spine.

Historical information

The author 'determined to imagine that my readers were at Hendon [aerodrome] and that we were discussing aeroplanes and airmen, and the feats of famous flyers'.

Claude Grahame-White is remembered as an early aviation pioneer who both flew and designed planes, including the boxkite.
