Subcollections
Overview

Implement with a gently curved shank ending in a flat, shield-shaped head with a blunt edge. It is set in a turned wooden handle and secured by means of a brass collar. It is used to imprint fine lines on the surface of leather. This is done as a guide or shallow channel for sewing or for decorating leather. Its imprint on the edge of leather articles such as shoes, purses, bags, holsters, etc, though sometimes referred as a crease, is in fact a bead. Assumed to have been used by Otto Lipfert who did leatherworking as a hobby. From the Lipfert home at 270 York Street, Subiaco.
