PINCUSHION: PORCELAIN FIGURINE WITH FABRIC CUSHION.

c. 1930 - 1939
Overview

This pincushion came from the Lipfert family home, 270 York Street, Subiaco where the family lived from 1910-1980's. It is possibly hand made by a family member. The porcelain figurine is in two parts and upper female(?) with head and legs, and both parts are sewn in to the circular cushion. The figurine is a lady with a grey wig with pink bows, a made up face and her hands are raised to her face. She has gold painted shoes. The cushion forms the base of the object and is covered by some bone coloured taffeta gathered in at the waist. Over this is a hand painted taffeta skirt, decorated in pink, yellow and green in floral design. Pink and yellow silk threads form a sash, tied at the front and taken up to form a bodice. Pink and gold ribbon is tucked decoratively around base of cushion. 12/5/1999 taffeta painted, cardboard base.
