Overview

Circular, enamel and metal lapel pin badge issued by The Institute of Ambulance Officers (Australia).
It features a white, four-armed Maltese cross with red trim, set against a central yellow circle, with a yellow emu standing on the left side and a yellow kangaroo standing on the right side, all on a vibrant green background. The badge has a polished silver-toned metal border and silver lettering. The top arch reads 'THE INSTITUTE OF AMBULANCE OFFICERS' on the green background, while the bottom features a yellow banner scroll with the word "AUSTRALIA".
The reverse has a pin clasp for attachment and the maker's name 'AMOR SYDNEY' enbossed in a rectangle at the bottom.

Historical information

According to the Australasian College of Paramedicine, The Institute of Ambulance Officers (Australia) was the first major national organisation established to unify and professionalize the ambulance service throughout Australia. Its formation marked a critical transition from basic on-the-job first aid training toward the highly advanced, university-educated paramedicine profession seen today.
It was officially launched on July 30 1973 after which individual divisions or chapters were rapidly formed across every state and territory in Australia to establish localised professional communities
In 2000, the name was changed to the Australian College of Ambulance Professionals (ACAP) and after the organisation expanded to New Zealand in 2011, Australian became Australasian.

This badge is likely to date from the launch in 1973 through to the1980s.
