Queensland Ambulance Association enamel badge
Circular, enamel and metal lapel pin badge issued by the Queensland Ambulance Association.
It features a central red Maltese Cross with gold borders set against a white background. The words 'QUEENSLAND AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION' are inlaid in gold lettering around a vibrant blue enamel outer border, which also has gold edging.
The reverse has a pin clasp for attachment and the maker's name 'WALLACE BISHOP BRISBANE' impressed on the lower side.
Before the modernisation and centralisation into the government-run Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) in 1991, ambulance services across Queensland operated through localised ambulance transport brigades, associations, and committees dating back to the late 19th and early-to-mid 20th centuries.
Badges such as this were worn historically by staff, volunteers, or first-aiders associated with Queensland's early ambulance transport brigades.
