Zinc Corporation Ambulance Association enamel badge
c. 1930 - 1950Circular, enamel and metal lapel pin badge issued by the Zinc Corporation Ambulance Association to workers who had completed industrial first aid or ambulance training or qualifications.
It features a central red Maltese Cross with gold borders set against a white background. The words 'ZINC CORPORATION • AMBULANCE ASSN.' are inlaid in gold lettering around a dark green enamel outer border, which also has gold edging.
The reverse has a horseshoe-style buttonhole lapel fastener, designed to slip securely through a lapel buttonhole. The maker's name 'STOKES AND SONS MELB' is impressed on the lower edge of the horseshoe.
The Zinc Corporation was a major mining company established in Broken Hill, New South Wales, in 1905. Large industrial operations during the early-to-mid 20th century frequently maintained internal, highly trained ambulance associations to provide immediate emergency response for mine workers.
