The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) operated heavily across Great Britain between 1923 and 1947. During this era, major railway networks prioritised safety by creating dedicated internal 'Centres' in partnership with the St. John Ambulance Association. Employees, ranging from conductors and station masters to track engineers, undertook rigorous first-aid testing.
These medals were awarded to railway employees who completed certified first aid training to assist passengers and staff across the rail network.
