Sailors Day metal fundraising pin - 2 shillings

c. 1940
Overview

World War Two era Sailors Day metal fundraising stick pin.
It features a raised fouled anchor (an anchor wrapped with a rope) surmounted by a stylised British Naval Crown.
The words 'SAILORS' on the left and 'DAY' on the right are embossed in silver-toned metal, set against what remains of a blue enamel or painted background ring.
A metal pin is attached to centre of the reverse of the badge, extending down vertically.
On the reverse, the denomination '2/-' (2 shillings) and the maker's details 'AMOR SYDNEY' appear in raised text.
The whole pin is in poor condition, with the loss of paint/enamel and oxidisation of the metal leading to the silver-toned elements having a mottled, greyish-tan texture.

Historical information

The Sailors' Day and Merchant Seamen's Appeals during World War Two were nationwide charity and fundraising campaigns in Australia designed to support Allied merchant navy personnel and naval seamen.
Organised through various charitable groups like the Royal Navy and local merchant navy welfare funds, these regular appeals raised vital capital to provide comfort packages, medical aid, and financial relief to the families of sailors who faced immense danger keeping supply lines open.
