A.I.F. Memorial fundraising badge - gilt and enamel
1918A.I.F. Memorial fundraising badge comprising a gold coloured laurel wreath tied with a ribbon and a central gold brick, orientated lengthways.
The front face of the brick contains the words 'A.I.F. Memorial Building, Aug 2 1918' in gold raised letters embedded within royal blue enamel.
The reverse of the badge has a brooch fitting with a hinged pin which is inserted into a metal holder on the opposite side for attachment. The name of the maker, 'Amor Sydney' is impressed onto the back of the brick within a capsule shaped border.
On 2 August 1918 the Returned Soldiers' Association of New South Wales organised a collection day for the Memorial building, with the money collected intended to honour all who served in the A.I.F. during the war, including those who had returned. The day featured such activities as processions of schoolchildren, callisthenic displays, stalls, dinners, slide shows and other entertainments.
A range of fundraising pins and badges were sold for different amounts, but all featured the brick logo. This particular badge was the highest denomination and cost one pound. Other varieties including the silver and gold pins sold for 5 shillings.
The NSW Government also issued a fundraising pin entitled 'A.I.F. Memorial Public Schools Effort' to be sold to students for 3 pennies.
