CUP AND SAUCER: WEMBLEY WARE, GREEN LUSTRE, SUBIACO MUNICIPALITY TENNIS SET

From a set of teacups and saucers. This style of teacup and saucer was known as a 'tennis set'.

a) Teacup is lime green in colour with a gold rim and handle, and a white, glazed interior. The surface of the cup is plain, except for a gold detailing on its front (with the handle facing to the right).

Marking: At the centre of the image is the old Subiaco crest surrounded by gold, olive leaf vector. Around the crest in a banner reads 'SUBIACO MUNICIPALITY'.

Base: On the bottom of the cup is a maker's mark of intwined 'B&W' which is surrounded in a circle by: 'QUALITY WEMBLEY WARE' and a crown at the top. Stamp is in good condition showing makers mark in full.

b) Saucer is lime green luster in colour with a gold rim. Gold raised curved edge in middle and small raised circle to hold teacup. Used for holding scones or sandwiches with a cup of tea.

Base: Maker's mark of intwined 'B&W' which is surrounded in a circle by: 'QUALITY WEMBLEY WARE' and a crown at the top. Stamp is in good condition.
