FIGURINE: WEMBLEY WARE FOOTBALLER, EAST PERTH
c. 1950Small hand painted china Wembley Ware figure of Australian Rules player holding football, running, left foot forward. East Perth blue and black guernsey and long socks, black shorts, black boots, laced. Player has black hair. Base of ornament glazed green, tuft of green grass behind back foot.
Reverse: White clay underside, glazed. Small firing hole.
Wembley Ware was a line of fine china produced by the Bristile company at the their factory in the Subiaco industrial area from 1946 to 1961. Its many different decorative pieces, also known as Fancy Ware or Lustre Ware were notable for their originality and their lustrous, sometimes opalescent glazes. This piece is part of a collection donated by Mr. Ossie (G O) Edwards.
