Overview

Souvenir jug made from a clear crystal base and ruby glass top. It was produced to celebrate the visit to Albany of the American 'Great White Fleet' in 1908. The glass has been engraved with an inscription which appears clear in the red background.

Historical information

The United States Navy battle fleet (The Great White Fleet) visited Albany between 11-18 September 1908, part of its circumnavigation of the globe. It comprised 16 white-painted battleships and had visited Sydney and Melbourne prior to arriving in Albany, where the ships were refilled with coal before the next leg of their journey to Manila.
