Western Australian State baseball team blazer pocket

Overview

A Western Australian State baseball team blazer pocket made of black woollen material with a gold-coloured cotton stripe stitched across the top edge. In the centre is an embroidered shield in black and gold colours, depicting a black swan above two crossed baseball bats and a ball, and the year '1936' and 'Western Australia'. The years 1937, 1938, 1939, 1946 and 1947 have been embroidered beneath the shield.

Historical information

From the late 1930s Western Australia has competed in interstate baseball competitions. Glen Dunstan's Western Australian State baseball team blazer pocket records the years that he represented his State in those tournaments—four as a player and two as team manager. In 1936 he played in the interstate tournament against Victoria, and again in the Australian Baseball Championships Claxton Shield Series in 1937 (Vice/Captain), 1938 (Vice/Captain) and 1939 (Captain/Coach). He was WA's Team Manager in an interstate tournament against South Australia in 1946 and in the Claxton Shield Series in 1947.
At the conclusion of the 1947 Claxton Shield Series, Glen was selected in the Australian team as Team Manager. In 1948 he was again appointed Team Manager of the State team.
