Overview

Colour photo of front elevation. Paint peeling from weatherboards and red iron roof; decorative woodwork to verandah is broken in places. Door and sash windows have sidelights. Enclosed side verandah on right partly obscured by shrub.

Historical information

Believed to have been built in late 1890s by manager of a timber company. Occupied by John L.Fenton and Miss M. Fenton (Ladies School) in early 1900s. Frank Weston shown as owner 1904 with Mrs M Fenton the occupier. Owned by same family from 1905 until left to 2 sisters in 1945 when they divided it into 2 separtate units in which form it remained until sold by auction in March 1990 for $310,000. Cameron family home from 1910/1912. Restored and extended by Mark Stoney and his wife, Susan Wynn, it was the winner of the 2000 Claremont Civic Design Award for appropriate conservation of a timber dwelling.
