PULLED FABRIC, RUNNER

Overview

Silk runner, exquisitely hand embroidered in pulled fabric technique, stitched in Shanghai, China in early 20th century.

Floral design, hand embroidered covers the entire runner. Padded satin stitch creates the outline of flowers and leaves.

These are embroidered in pulled fabric stitches – four-sided, eyelet, satin stitch

Fabric between the design elements has been cut away and a background of latticework star-like brides worked in fine blanket stitch. Scalloped edge in very fine blanket stitch.

Embroidered label on back states: “Peony 100% PURE SILK, Hand Embroidered, Made in Shanghai, China”
