PULLED FABRIC, PETTICOAT
1994Finest hand embroidery on a lady’s silk petticoat is an example of beautiful stitching done in the silk capital of China, Suzhou, in 1994. During the Chinese Cultural Revolution in 1949, masses of cultural artefacts, including embroidered items, were destroyed. The death of Mao in 1976 saw the end of the Cultural Revolution. By 1994 the traditional beautiful hand embroidery was being revived.
On the petticoat, floral embroidery design across the top and back 150 mm deep and on front at bottom left hand side.
Finest buttonhole scalloped edges top and bottom of the petticoat. Silk shoe string straps.
Label at the collar states: “YILI, Hand Embroidered, Made In China, 100% silk, Size M”
