NEEDLEPAINTING, PICTURE

Overview

Hand embroidered by the donor, this colourful thread painting of an African bird is a design by Renette Kumm, embroidery artist from South Africa, whose projects in magazines are very popular in 21st century in Australia.

Considered a national symbol of Kenya, the rare and very beautiful African bird, Lilac-Breasted Roller, frequents the woodland and savanna of Africa.

The unusual and striking colours of its plumage are depicted using single strands of 70 shades of cotton and silk thread, producing an incredibly realist portrait of this stunning bird.
