In 1919 the ‘Mothers and Widows’ badge was officially sanctioned for issue to mothers or widows of members of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) or the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force who were killed in action or died of wounds, or other causes while serving in the First World War. Annie DENNEY suffered the loss of two sons, John and James DENNEY, both were killed in action at Gallipoli.
