First World War Mothers and Widows Ribbon, black silk ribbon with machine embroidered gold wattle sprigs, rising sun with “Australia Military Forces for Australia”, suspended between two white metal bars, top bar embossed with laurel leaves and the number “22647” stamped on back of top metal bar.

Historical information

Mothers and Widows Ribbon issued to Pte. Walter ROBINS 2201 wife Frances upon his death. In June 1916 while convalescing in England from serious injury Walter met Frances and in 1917 they were married, while he was recovering from extensive shrapnel wounds.

One star on the bottom suspender signifying death of one serviceman of that family; bottom suspender has come away from ribbon.
