ELECTRIC IRON (STEAM)

c. 1965
Overview

Iron came from the Lipfert home at 270 York Street, Subiaco. Shape is of an elongated triangle, with 2 long sides curving into a peak. Base is made of steel plate, and main body of iron is of chrome plated metal. The dark brown handle is made of bakelite. Set into the base of the handle is a round dial for temperature control and a small white hole beside this dial indicates setting for temperature. Metal surrounds the opening at the front of the handle into which water is poured to produce steam. At top of handle is a maroon bakelite switch with markings 'on' and 'off', and this activated the steam. On base of iron are 8 small outlets for steam situated on either side of front half. At back of handle is an engraved metal plate indicating iron is made by 'Hoover' at Meadowbank, Sydney, NSW. It is 240V, 1000W, A.C. only, Model 0114. The 'Hoover' logo appears on centre of temp. dial and at front of handle. The cord comes from the right side at back of handle with a protective rubber cover near outlet. The cord is covered with woven cotton and has a 3 pronged bakelite plug.
