Overview

Awl with bulbous light-coloured wooden handle and straight, flat-sided metal spike tapering to a sharp point. Spike set into handle and clamped tight by means of a brass band. Two horizontal incisions at neck of handle.

Historical information

Three awls used to prick holes in leather to facilitate stitching. Thought to have been used by Otto Lipfert whose hobbies included leatherworking. From the Lipfert home at 270 York Street, Subiaco. W.A.
