TOOL: AWL, CURVED, LIPFERT FAMILY
AWL, CURVED, ROUNDED Awl with bulbous, light-coloured wooden handle. Rounded metal spike curving at its sharp point. The spike is set into the wooden handle and clamped tight by means of a narrow brass band. Awl is used to prick holes in leather to facilitate stitching. The curve enables the craftsman to reach into difficult corners. Thought to have been used by Otto Lipfert whose many hobbies included leatherworking. From the Lipfert home at 270 York Street.
