POSTCARD: BIRTHDAY, WITH IMAGE OF COTTAGE, BEEHIVES AND FLOWERS
1940Postcard sent to Lillian Dennis for her 33rd birthday by her husband Jim.
Horizontal white postcard with the words 'Many Happy Returns / of your / Birthday' in curly black type in the top right corner. Below, in the top centre is an image of three beehices on a wooden shelf in front of a red brick wall. To the left is an image in a cricle frame of a white cottage wioth a brown thatched roof. Surronding this is 5 flowers (pansys) in ombred purple, red and yellow. On the right there is a poem in small black type which reads: 'MAY YOUR PATH / BE BRIGHT / WITH FLOWERS -/ LIFE BE FULL OF / SUNNY HOURS; / AND LIKE BEES / UPON THE WING / MAY EACH DAY / ITS OWN SWEETNESS BRING.' In even smaller type below it reads: 'Copyright Allac Junior'.
The reverse has a hadnwritten message in black cursive which reads: 'To my oen dear wife on her 33rd Birthday / from / true and everloving Husband. / 17/10/40 / With all my love / As evening shadows slowly fall once more / I pen some lines to you / Dear wife of mine who through the years / has ever been so kind and true. / Some things must go wrong as our lives / pass along / and the braver we meet them the better / But I've still got you and you have got me / and we could not have done any better / xxxx'
