POSTCARD: BIRTHDAY, 'MANY HAPPY RETURNS' WITH RED ROSE
1930Horizontal cream postcard with a painterly image of a red single red rose with green leaves laid down on its side. Above this in cursive black type reads: 'Many Happy Returns'. In the bottom right corner is a two line poem which reads: 'Every hour and day / unfolding, / Some fresh joy for you / be holding.' Three of the edges of the card are slightly waved, the shortner right edge appears to have been torn from a postcard book.
The reverse has a black handwritten message which reads: 'To my Wife on the 22nd anniversary of my seding her a Birthday Card / Oct 17th 1930 - from Jim your Lover. / It's your Birthday today and I wish you much joy, / With plenty of pleasures and nought to annoy, / may your year be happy, and your friends be true / With health and wealth and love is my wihs to you. / Twenty two years of our lives have passed, / Since I first wished the Sun to shine on you fair; / I still wish the same and I hope it will last, / For as I am with you that Sunshine I share. / from your one and only Jim xxxxx'
