Above the picture is text: (The WESTERN MAIL / STATE CENTENARY / NUMBER 1929.) At the bottom of the picture is text: (H.M.S. Success, with Captain Stirling, off Fremantle in March, 1827. Stirling was to report / on the value of the Swan River country for settlement).

This object is part of a collection that represents key state celebrations that include the Western Australian Centenary (1829), the Western Australian 175th Anniversary (1979) and other key commemorative events promoted and organised by the Western Australian Government. These events played an important role in acknowledging significant events in the history of Western Australia and were designed to bring the residents of the state together to celebrate.
