Historical information

With the aim of promoting greater community involvement in Under-13 baseball by introducing Pee Wee Baseball, the Australian Baseball Federation entrusted the South Australian Baseball League to organise the inaugural national pee wee championships in January 1984. The tournament Director was Peter Thompson.

The championship was held at a time when baseball was undergoing rapid growth in participation throughout Australia, and promoting the sport at the junior level was seen to be of tremendous benefit to the sport as a whole.

The tournament was held at the Henley & Grange Baseball Club's grounds in Adelaide, South Australia, with teams competing for the Dave Roberts Trophy. Dave Roberts was a prominent advocate and administrator of junior baseball in South Australia and a fitting person to have the trophy named after him.

Competing teams were from the Northern Territory, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania.
