Swan Brewery 'Local Heroes' poster
A colourful A1-size advertising poster on coated gloss paper, depicting Western Australian players from four major sporting codes in their respective playing uniforms. The sports of Aussie rules football, cricket, baseball and basketball are represented, with the players pictured in a weight training environment. Swan Brewery products are subtly inserted into the posed photograph. Below the photograph is the Swan Brewery logo of a black swan on a gold background and below it the word 'SWAN' in white text on a black background. Above the 'Swan' logo, in black text, is the tagline 'Local Heroes'.
Pictured on the poster are significant players who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of their sports at state, national and international levels. Andrew Vlahov and Ricky Grace (Wildcats-basketball), Geoff Marsh (cricket), Tony Adamson and Shaun Hrabar (Perth Heat-baseball), and Peter Matera, Chris Mainwaring and John Worsfold (West Coast Eagles-AFL football) all had outstanding sporting careers.

This advertisement dates from the 1990s; an era when the Swan Brewery was a major sponsor of the four Western Australian sporting codes depicted in the photograph. It illustrates that Perth Heat, at that time, were comparable to the West Coast Eagles, cricket and the Perth Wildcats as an important brand for their product.
The poster was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Meredith Eddington, whose father Gill Eddington was the Western Australian team manager when they won their first Claxton Shield baseball championship in 1952.
This representation of eight admired Western Australian sportsmen from four prominent sporting codes in the 1990s, has both historic and social significance. It shows a 'local' sponsor, supporting 'local' sport.
