First World War Postcard of Camel Riders ‘Enroute for the Fields’, Egypt
1900 - 1919A black and white artistic postcard depicting three men riding camels in sandy and rocky terrain. Each man is wearing robes and headwear and the camels all have ornate saddles with differing coverings and one with tassels hanging under the animal’s rump. The terrain is undulating with some buildings in the distance, together with what appears to be a river. The postcard is in very good condition with no damage. The left edge has perforations that suggest it was separated from another card. The front is printed with a description of the image, and the reverse has proforma printing.
Before motorized transport, camel caravans were essential for transporting goods and people across arid region.
