CARRICKMACROSS, HANDKERCHIEF
This beautifully stitched carrickmacross white cotton handkerchief by one of the earliest Guild members, Audrey Spitteler, Guild tutor, for the Armadale Group of The Embroiderer's Guild of WA in the 1990s.
In particular, finely executed are the TWIRLS - circles of thread couched to the outer edge.
Carrickmacross stitched only in one corner: tiny hems, finely executed with hem stitching.
This carrickmacross technique is rarely stitched today.
