GENERAL EMBROIDERY, CROSS STITCH, SAMPLER
c. 1980 - 1989Presented as an original 1806 Sampler by Elizabeth Willetts. On closer examination it was discovered that the sampler is a reproduction of an original. The clues which alerted us were: the fabric was not as fine as those used in 1806, there was unusual stitching on the birds which was not used in the early 1800s. After searching online the original was identified as being sold at auction in the UK!
The wording on the sampler:
Hail risen Jesus Hail my lord and God
I am thy own redeemed with thy own blood
O Lord what hast thou done thy death and smart
have got the day have won my very respect,
beyond my faith and hope and every grace
ill boast alone of thee my righteousness.
Thy gifts and streams are sweet and grateful own
but o thou bridegroom dear though art my crown,
