LACE, CARRICKMACROSS, FICHU
Section of a fichu, costume accessory in 19th century, is a variation of the original carrickmacross which originated in Ireland in mid 19th century. Less labour intensive, the design is organza applique, the outline tamboured rather than couched, including the ‘pops’ - tiny circles which originally were buttonhole eyelets.
Unusual organza scalloped edge, whereas the original edge had tiny circular picots.
Design, trailing floral sprays. Two sides have different scalloped edge. On side is semicircular scallops, 50mm wide with a flower in the centre. Second side has triangular peaked scallops 70mm deep.
