GENERAL EMBROIDERY, SAMPLER

c. 2008
Overview

An exquisite sampler consisting of bands of Egyptian mosaic designs worked on very fine linen using a form of straight stitch – Holbein, darning, cross stitch, intricately executed with even embroidery stitches.

This framed sampler is beautifully hand-embroidered by Guild member Kaye Menzies who attended a workshop conducted by NSW tutor Alison Snepp “Derivations from Medieval Egyptian Samplers.” Inspiration from “Embroideries and Samplers from Islamic Egypt” by Marrianne Ellis. Started in 2006 and completed in 2016-2017.
