Shaw Family And Friends On Jetty

Overview

William and Edith Shaw with family and friends sitting on the edge of the Claremont Teachers College jetty at the foot of Bay Road. The group all have their legs hanging over the edge of the jetty, all the children are bare footed. Edith Shaw in large hat and light frock, William Shaw in dark trousers, white shirt and tie and dark hat, children in light clothes and hats. A girl holding a young child is standing on the right.

Historical information

Sarah Olive Shaw Born 11-06-1911, at the home of her Uncle Ted (Edward Shaw) at 16 Stirling Road, Claremont. Daughter of William and Edith Jane Shaw. Miss Shaw's grandfather Peter Shaw, and family arrived from Birmingham in 1897. Lived firstly at 41 Claremont Crescent, then built and moved to 21 Stirling Road, Claremont in 1917. The house never finished because of hardships of World War I and then the depression. Sarah, (called Olive) the first child of William and Edith had 3 brothers, William Alfred b.1917, Arthur Edward b.1919 and George James b.1922. Miss Shaw continued living in the house at 21 Stirling Road until December 1984, when she moved to a retirement home in Nedlands.
