Overview

A watercolour ink and gouache on paper, this is an unfinished work in shades of grey and black of the SS HARBART of London, undergoing propeller & rudder repairs at the Albany town Jetty. The HARBART is shown here port laden, or in ballast, which has been moved forward to raise the stern of the ship. This strategy is to allow repairs alongside the Jetty instead of needing a dry dock. In the foreground is the steam barge ASHBURTON.
A unique combination of surviving detailed working pencil sketches is shown in series for contextual reference. These pencil sketches have detailed notes and instructions for later work on the watercolour.
