Peace Beaker celebrating the end of the Great War - Jarrow
c. 1919White bone china beaker produced to celebrate peace after the Great War.
It features a sepia illustration of Britannia astride her chariot with a lion to the rear. She is floating above the blue-green sea with a warship on either side.
Twelve colourful flags of the allies appear either side of Britannia in groups of six. Above her helmet is a sepia depiction of the world globe with a white dove at the top and the word 'Peace' in a band around the centre.
There is a scroll across the bottom which has the words 'Liberty Justice Truth Honour'.
The rim of the beaker features gold decoration, some of which has worn off.
The reverse of the beaker has an image of the Coat of Arms of Jarrow and the words 'Jarrow Peace' and 'Celebration July 19th 1919' written above and below in blue.
The maker's details are printed in gold on the base of the beaker.
This beaker is one of a number of commemorative items produced to celebrate the end of World War One in the collection.
