Overview

Black and gold coloured trophy. rectangle shaped outline structure with two long sections across the top and bottom and two long sections connect the bottom and top at either end resulting in a rectangle shape with an empty centre section. Each side section displays 9 gold-coloured panels for engraving, with the first four panels on the left side engraved from top to bottom" 2016 Molly Leeder", "2017 Jayln McCaffrey", "2018 Rhianna Abu Lashing", "2019 Anika Lawrence". a singular gold coloured panel situated in the centre of the bottom section reads "Kelmscott Idol Singer Songwriter". The empty middle section of the trophy houses a gold-coloured figure in the shape of music notes with a small circular white part that says "KAS Kelmscott Agricultural Society" in blue and black letters. The top section of the trophy has three gold-coloured figures, two golden microphones, one on each side of a golden elongated star with music notes.

Historical information

Classic Sounds was a music store located at 223 Railway Avenue in Kelmscott. The business was started in c1991 by Bernard School. in 2001 Morley John purchased the business and ran it until his retirement in 2023. The store not only sold musical instruments and associated equipment but also had studios for music lessons.

In 2016 the store sponsored the Kelmscott Songwritting Competition which ran from 2016-2019. It was stopped in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Statement of significance

This item is a good example of trophy’s won in local competitions and represents the social importance of community and events to test people’s ability and reward those who are successfully in the competition, whilst bringing together the community in support.
