Sweetheart brooch with Rising Sun badge attached to rifle and bayonet
Sterling silver sweetheart brooch with a depiction of an Australian Army Rising Sun badge attached to the front of a rifle and bayonet.
The Rising Sun badge is engraved with the words 'Australian Commonwealth Mility Forces'.
The reverse is sturdy, comprising a curved loop of metal wire to which the base of the badge is attached. The back of the rifle is concave, with the maker's mark and the word 'Sterling' embossed in raised lettering.
A pin clasp goes from one side to the other for attachment.
Many military badges and insignia were converted into jewellery such as brooches, pendants, lockets and earrings to be gifted to loved ones as keepsakes.
This particular sweetheart badge combines the imagery of the Army rifle with the insignia of the Australian Army - the Rising Sun badge.
