Trench art miniature domino set
Trench art miniature domino set made from brass, comprising a rectangular box with two compartments and a sliding lid with curved overhanging end, and 9 individual dominoes.
The lid is divided into three by two vertical lines, and each segment contains 12 circular holes in groups of 6, top and bottom. This resembles a cribbage scoring board.
The dominoes are hand cut rectangles of brass and are inscribed with a central line and varying numbers of dots, from none to six.
The maker of this miniature domino set is unknown, but they were skilled in metalwork, as the lid fits well and slides in and out easily.
A domino set normally has 28 dominoes and there are only 9 with this set, but perhaps the remainder have been lost over time due to their very small size.
It is hard to imagine playing with this set, so it could just be a fun project to produce an item in miniature.
