WWI era fundraising badge with unit colour patch of 3rd Light Horse Regiment, South Australia
c. 1915World War One era, circular fundraising badge/button featuring the unit colour patch of 3rd Light Horse Regiment, South Australia.
The badge has a cream background with dark grey to black writing which reads '3rd Light Horse' above and 'South Australia' below the central colour patch.
The rectangular colour patch has a diagonal line running from the top left to the bottom right, underrneath which is painted black and above which is just an outline with the same cream background inside.
The reverse has a metal back with a void into which a metal pin is secured for attachment. There are no maker's marks.
The 3rd Light Horse Regiment was raised in September 1914 for World War One service, fighting as mounted infantry in Egypt, Gallipoli, and the Middle East. Men were primarily recruited from South Australia and Tasmania.
This badge is likely to have been made by A.W. Patrick in South Australia, but there is nothing on the button to prove this.
