British Army Ordnance Corps sweetheart brooch
c. 1915World War One era, circular, tortoiseshell and gilded metal sweetheart brooch featuring the insignia of the British Army Ordnance Corps in gold in the centre.
The insignia comprises the Board of Ordnance shield, featuring three field cannons and three cannonballs, underneath which the words 'Army Ordnance Corps' are engraved on a scroll.
The central insignia appears to be made from 9 carat rose gold, whereas the border is gold plated, with the base metal showing through in places.
There is a gold painted disc attached to the reverse and a pin clasp for attachment.
There are no hallmarks or maker's marks visible.
This gold and tortoiseshell sweetheart badge is one of many produced and sold to servicemen to give to their loved ones during World War One. They were commercially produced with the insignia in the centre varying to represent various units in all three military services - Army, Navy and Flying Corps.
