Studio portrait of William Archer Garland in suit, white shirt and tie standing beside his wife, Maria Grey Garland, wearing a striped outfit with lace collar and contrasting belt and bow at neckline. Seated on a high stool in front of them are their two eldest children; Gwendolyn in a light dress edged with lace, and Clem in dark pants with straps over a shirt with loose bow tie. The girl has her hair in ringlets with a striped bow. Both children are wearing dark shoes and white socks.

View from north west of brick and iron house with striped bull nosed verandah and jutting room with gable and sash windows. Front wall is of lighter brick with decorative red brick quoins. Verandah, with full length canvas blinds, has turned wooden posts, valance and decorative brackets. Four children are standing in front of the verandah.
