Overview

Studio portrait of James Thomas Peet and his wife Mabel with their four children. Against a backdrop of sky, arches and flowering shrub, Mabel, in long skirt and jacket over a high necked lace blouse, is seated with baby Percy on her lap. Standing beside her is Eric in knickerbockers, boots, waistcoat and jacket with Eton collar and bow tie. Behind Mabel is James Thomas Peet in dark jacket and trousers, striped waistcoat and high collared shirt. He is steadying toddler Cyril who, dressed in a light tunic with belt,is standing on a stool. Vi, in light dress gathered onto a yoke and frilled at the hem is on the right. She has a large bow in her hair and is wearing long white socks and flat shoes with two straps.

Historical information

James Thomas Peet was born in Nottinghampshire, England. Moved to Queensland in 1886. When arrived in Perth, set up business in Perth in 1889. Appointed a Government Land Agent and Sworn Valuator operating from 158 William Street Perth in 1900. Married Mabel Urch in 1896. Had sons Percy, Cyril and Eric and daughters Doris (1901-1902) and Violet. While he and his wife were on tour in 1911, he purchased a de Dion Bouton tourer car in England, after the coronation of King George V, and had it shipped to Fremantle, accompanied by driver, Mr Sawyer. Mr Peet did not drive.
