Waist length, studio portrait of Mabel Peet leaning on studio 'prop'. She has a smooth skin and steady gaze. She is wearing a dark shiny bodice with a central panel of light gathered material. The wide neckline is bordered with lace and the front edge decorated with ribbon bows, lace and a cameo brooch. The tightly fitting sleeves are of lace. She is wearing a bracelet and rings and the ribbon and fringing around her neck has a decorative pin. The front of her hair is crimped; the back appears to be in a smooth chignon with flowers.

Historical information

James Thomas Peet was born in Nottinghampshire, England. Moved to Queensland in 1886. When arrived in Perth, set up business in Perth in 1889. Appointed a Government Land Agent and Sworn Valuator operating from 158 William Street Perth in 1900. Married Mabel Urch in 1896. Had sons Percy, Cyril and Eric and daughters Doris (1901-1902)and Violet. While he and his wife were on tour in 1911, he purchased a de Dion Bouton tourer car in England, after the coronation of King George V, and had it shipped to Fremantle, accompanied by driver, Mr Sawyer. Mr Peet did not drive.
