Peet Family
1919Studio portrait of James Thomas Peet, his wife Mabel and their children. Seated centre front is James Thomas Peet in dark three piece suit, winged collar and tie. Perched on either side of him is son Percy and daughter Lillie. He is wearing short trousers, buttoned jacket, white shirt and tie; she is in a light short sleeved dress and is wearing buttoned boots with dark socks. In her hair is an enormous bow. Standing are, Violet in a light outfit, Eric in dark jacket white shirt with winged collar and tie, and their mother, Mabel. Seated on a stool on the right is Cyril, dressed in the same manner as his younger brother.
James Thomas Peet was born in Nottinghamshire, England and moved to Queensland in 1886.
James arrived in Perth in 1889 and set up business in Perth. He was appointed a Government Land Agent and Sworn Valuator operating from 158 William Street Perth in 1900.
James married Mabel Urch in 1896. Their children were: Percy Thomas (b. 1906), Cyril Ernest (b.1904), Eric Richard Chevin (b. 1898), Doris Mable (1901-1902), Violet Ethel (b.1899) and Lillie (b.1908).
While he and his wife were on tour in 1911, he purchased a de Dion Bouton tourer car in England, after the coronation of King George V, and had it shipped to Fremantle, accompanied by driver, Mr Sawyer. Mr Peet did not drive.
