Shire of Toodyay

The Shire of Toodyay is a local government authority which manages two historical sites as community museums - Connor's Mill and the Newcastle Gaol Museum precinct.

Connor's Mill was built in 1870 for Daniel Connor. It operated as a flour mill until the early 1920s, as a power station until 1955 and was finally adapted as a tourist information centre and a museum from 1975. Entry to Connor's Mill is through the Toodyay Visitors' Centre on Piesse Street, Toodyay.

The gaol precinct includes the 1891 Newcastle Police Stables, the century old Wicklow Shearing Shed, the 1907 Lock-up and the 1865 Newcastle Gaol. The Newcastle Gaol on Clinton Street, Toodyay is one of the earliest community museums established in regional Western Australia, having opened its doors as a museum in 1962.
